As part of its regional expansion drive, United Nigeria Airlines (UNA) has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening partnerships with travel agents and industry stakeholders ahead of the launch of its Abuja–Accra and Lagos–Accra routes slated for November 10, 2025.
The airline made this known during its maiden Strategic Agency Forum, held on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, at the Protea Hotel, Lagos. The interactive session brought together top travel agencies and representatives from major industry players including the National Association of Nigerian Travel Agencies (NANTA), Sabre, Wakanow, American Express Travels, Orih Travels, and several others.
The forum, themed “Building Stronger Partnerships for Regional Connectivity,” served as a strategic platform to engage travel agents on the airline’s expansion vision and product offerings ahead of its entry into Ghana’s competitive air travel market.
Strengthening Market Position Through Partnership
Speaking during the event, Mrs. Ifeoma Ekwerike, Head of Business Development and Strategy, said the new Accra routes represent a pivotal milestone in United Nigeria Airlines’ growth strategy and its ambition to enhance connectivity across West Africa.
“The Nigeria–Ghana route serves more than 240,000 passengers annually, making it one of the most active travel corridors in the region. United Nigeria Airlines is entering the market with reliable schedules, on-time operations, competitive fares, and premium services, backed by special incentives for our agents,” she stated.
She further disclosed that the airline would operate daily non-stop flights from Abuja to Accra and four weekly flights from Lagos to Accra, leveraging its growing fleet and operational efficiency to deliver a seamless passenger experience.
Expanding Fleet and Capacity
In his remarks, Chief Operating Officer, Mazi Osita Okonkwo, expressed gratitude to travel agents for their continued loyalty and underscored their central role in the airline’s success story.
“Our agents are our ambassadors before the passengers, their trust, effort, and professionalism are key to our growth,” Okonkwo noted. “As we expand into regional operations, we are also scaling up our capacity with the acquisition of six Boeing 737-800 aircraft, which will further strengthen our domestic and international network.”
He reaffirmed the airline’s determination to support Nigeria’s tourism and travel ecosystem, noting that collaboration between airlines and agents remains essential for sustainable industry growth.
Rewarding Loyalty and Commitment
To round off the event, Chief Commercial Officer, Mr. Raphael Uchegbu, conducted a lucky dip draw, where several travel agents won free return tickets to Accra aboard the inaugural flight.
The forum provided an opportunity for participants to discuss new technology-driven solutions in ticketing, sales, and customer management, reinforcing United Nigeria Airlines’ reputation as one of Nigeria’s most innovative carriers.
Flying to Unite Africa
Since its debut in 2021, United Nigeria Airlines has continued to expand its footprint across Nigeria, operating flights to 14 destinations with a modern fleet that recently welcomed two Airbus A320-200s and a CRJ-900 aircraft. The upcoming launch of the Accra routes marks the airline’s first regional foray and a significant step toward its goal of connecting key African cities under its corporate mission, “Flying to Unite.”
As the November 10 inaugural flight approaches, United Nigeria Airlines stands ready to deliver superior service, greater connectivity, and a renewed commitment to collaboration that will drive growth across the West African aviation market.
