The Managing Director/Chief Executive of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, has been honoured with the “Champion of Staff Welfare Award” during the Silver Jubilee celebration of the Abuja International Airport Staff Multi-Purpose Co-operative Society—an event that brought together top aviation stakeholders to recognize excellence, commitment, and staff empowerment.

The milestone anniversary, held at the General Aviation Terminal (GAT) of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, attracted members from FAAN, the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB), and representatives from various aviation unions and agencies. The gathering underscored the cooperative’s longstanding impact on improving the socioeconomic well-being of airport staff over the past 25 years.

Receiving the prestigious award, Mrs. Kuku expressed deep appreciation to the organisers for acknowledging her administration’s significant strides in enhancing staff welfare across Nigeria’s airports. She praised the Abuja Cooperative for its exceptional record of staff support initiatives, solidarity, and financial empowerment, noting that the organisation has distinguished itself among aviation cooperatives nationwide.

“I am truly honoured by this recognition. The Abuja Co-operative Society has consistently stood out as a model for staff support and welfare enhancement, and this award motivates us to continue investing in the well-being of our people,” she said.

Mrs. Kuku highlighted that her leadership has placed substantial emphasis on improving employee welfare packages, training opportunities, and workplace conditions. She reaffirmed that a motivated workforce remains central to the transformation and efficiency of aviation operations.

Using the platform to address the workforce, the FAAN boss called on all staff across the agencies to rededicate themselves to excellence, professionalism, and a renewed commitment to duty. According to her, improved welfare must be reciprocated with stronger work ethics and dedication to service delivery.

“As we elevate staff welfare, it is important that we all embrace a greater sense of responsibility. I urge every member of our aviation family to see this as a call to double our commitment, improve service delivery, and contribute meaningfully to the growth of our sector,” she stated.

The Silver Jubilee celebration marked an important milestone for the Abuja International Airport Staff Multi-Purpose Cooperative Society, celebrating its journey of financial empowerment, community support, and social stability for workers. The event concluded with renewed pledges from stakeholders to continue strengthening cooperative systems as vital pillars of worker welfare in the aviation industry.
