As Nigeria enters the peak of the end-of-year travel season, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has called on all airport stakeholders to work collaboratively to deliver a seamless, dignified and memorable passenger experience across the nation’s airports.

With the annual “Dirty December” travel rush drawing thousands of passengers into the country, FAAN noted that major gateways such as the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, and the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (NAIA), Abuja, have once again assumed their role as Nigeria’s first point of contact with returning citizens and international visitors.

In a goodwill message to stakeholders, Mr. Henry Agbebire, The Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at FAAN, said the festive period presents a critical opportunity for Nigeria to project a positive national image in line with the expectations of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Honourable Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development.

Agbebire urged all agencies operating within airport environments—including Customs, Immigration, Port Health, Quarantine Services, the Department of State Services (DSS), the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Aviation Security, ground handlers and other service providers—to strengthen cooperation and coordination in the interest of passengers.

According to FAAN, rising passenger traffic should not translate into poor service delivery. Airport personnel were therefore advised to avoid harassment, intimidation, profiling, unnecessary delays or obstruction of passengers, and to desist from soliciting or demanding money in any form.

“All officers and personnel working at our airports are expected to conduct their duties with courtesy, professionalism and efficiency,” Agbebire stated, stressing that the festive season is a defining moment to demonstrate the culture of excellence Nigeria seeks to entrench.

He added that Nigerians returning home and visitors arriving for business, tourism or family reunions deserve warmth, order and reassurance from arrival through departure, noting that airports must reflect safety, efficiency and hospitality at all times.

FAAN described the call as both a reminder and a reflection on the role of airport service delivery in shaping perceptions of the country, particularly during high-traffic periods. The Authority reaffirmed its commitment to consumer protection and global best practices, while counting on the cooperation of all stakeholders to ensure smooth airport operations throughout the festive season.

On behalf of FAAN’s Managing Director and management, Agbebire extended Christmas and New Year goodwill messages to airport workers, stakeholders and passengers, expressing confidence that collective responsibility would help make Nigeria proud during the holiday travel surge and beyond.

FAAN urges airport agencies to uphold professionalism and seamless service delivery as festive travel peaks at MMIA Lagos and NAIA Abuja, calling for collaboration, courtesy and zero tolerance for passenger harassment.
