United Nigeria Airlines Apologises Over Ekiti–Lagos Flight Disruption, Explains Cause

United Nigeria Airlines has issued an official apology following the disruption of Flight UN0623 on the Ekiti–Lagos route, responding to concerns raised by passenger Ms. Bolaji Ogunmola in a video that has since gone viral on social media.

In a statement released on Thursday, the airline acknowledged the inconvenience caused to Ms. Ogunmola and other affected passengers, noting that flight delays and cancellations can significantly disrupt personal and professional engagements.
According to the airline, the flight scheduled for January 7, 2026, was disrupted due to unscheduled aircraft maintenance, a measure it said was necessary to uphold safety standards. United Nigeria Airlines disclosed that affected passengers were promptly informed of the disruption through email and text message notifications.

The airline further explained that, in a bid to minimise passenger hardship, the Ekiti–Lagos flight was specially reinstated on January 8, 2026, despite the route not being part of its regular schedule for that day.
United Nigeria Airlines stressed that it fully complied with the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) Consumer Protection Regulations, particularly Part 19, which governs passenger care during flight disruptions. It added that all statutory welfare obligations to passengers were duly observed.

Reiterating its commitment to safety, operational excellence and customer satisfaction, the airline offered an unreserved apology to Ms. Ogunmola and all other affected passengers. It also assured the public that passenger feedback remains vital to its continuous efforts to improve service delivery.

The statement was signed by the airline’s Public Relations Officer, Chibuike Uloka, MNIPR, and dated January 8, 2026.
United Nigeria Airlines concluded by reaffirming that safety remains its foremost priority while pledging to strengthen communication and operational processes to enhance passenger experience across its network.
