The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) is stepping up efforts to ensure the highest standards of airport safety across the country. Under the leadership of Managing Director/Chief Executive, Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, the authority is implementing comprehensive training programs for FAAN staff, airside stakeholders, and all airport facility users.
These initiatives are designed to equip participants with critical knowledge in areas such as airport safety standards, airside driving rules, and International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) recommended practices. Training sessions are conducted by ICAO-certified instructors from FAAN’s Safety Services Department, ensuring adherence to global aviation safety benchmarks.
Recent training programs have been held at airports nationwide, including Akure, Ilorin, Jos, Enugu, Owerri, Abuja, Kaduna, Port Harcourt, Maiduguri, Sokoto, Katsina, Calabar, and Lagos. This reflects FAAN’s commitment to creating a culture of safety that spans the entire Nigerian aviation network.
Mrs. Kuku stressed that “safety is non-negotiable,” noting that continuous education and strict compliance with international standards are essential for protecting lives, boosting operational efficiency, and enhancing passenger confidence.
Through these initiatives, FAAN aims not only to maintain operational excellence but also to position Nigeria’s airports among the safest in Africa, reinforcing the country’s standing in global aviation.
