NCC Hosts West African Telecom Regulators to Boost Regional Collaboration and Digital Growth

In a move aimed at strengthening regional telecommunications cooperation, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) today welcomed a high-level delegation from the West African Telecommunications Regulators Association (WATRA) and the Liberia Telecommunications Authority (LTA) at its Abuja headquarters.

The delegation was led by Engr. Aliyu Yusuf Aboki, Executive Secretary of WATRA, and included Hon. Clarence K. Massaquoi, Chairman of the Board of Commissioners, LTA, and Hon. Ben Fofana, Commissioner responsible for Licensing and Regulation at LTA. NCC was represented by senior officials including Mrs. Nnenna Ukoha, Head of Public Affairs; Kelechi Nwankwo, Director of Corporate Planning, Strategy and Risk Management; and Usman Mamman, Director of Licensing & Authorization.
The courtesy visit provided a platform for discussions on harmonizing regulatory policies, spectrum management, cross-border licensing, and advancing digital infrastructure in West Africa. Both sides emphasized the need for regional integration, investor confidence, and improved consumer protection within the telecommunications sector.

Speaking during the engagement, Engr. Aliyu Yusuf Aboki said, “Our collaboration with NCC reflects our shared vision of a stronger, more resilient West African telecom ecosystem. By exchanging expertise and best practices, we aim to facilitate sustainable digital growth and enhanced service delivery across the region.”

Hon. Clarence K. Massaquoi highlighted the value of learning from Nigeria’s regulatory experience, noting that the partnership with NCC will support Liberia in adopting innovative frameworks that drive market competitiveness and technological advancement.

From the host’s perspective, Kelechi Nwankwo emphasized NCC’s commitment to fostering regional cooperation, stating, “These discussions are critical to ensuring uniform quality of service, regulatory compliance, and the growth of a robust digital economy throughout West Africa.”

The delegation and NCC officials also explored strategies for boosting ICT investment, supporting innovation, and enhancing cross-border telecom services, demonstrating a mutual commitment to a connected and digitally empowered region.

The visit concluded with both sides reaffirming their commitment to ongoing dialogue, knowledge exchange, and policy alignment, laying the foundation for stronger regional partnerships in telecommunications.
