The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Council, has taken a bold step to upgrade professional infrastructure for journalists in Abuja through a strategic partnership with Bespoke Holdings, a leading indigenous oil and gas and diversified services company.

The partnership aims to complete the NUJ Ultra-Modern Congress Hall, a project envisioned to serve as a state-of-the-art venue for professional, training, and union activities.

The collaboration was formalised during a courtesy visit by the NUJ FCT Council leadership to Bespoke Holdings’ management on Friday in Abuja. The meeting marked a significant milestone in the Council’s ongoing efforts to forge strategic partnerships that enhance journalists’ welfare, skills, and operational capacity in the FCT.

Addressing the Bespoke Holdings management, NUJ FCT Council Chairman, Ms. Grace Ike, described the Congress Hall project as a “critical legacy initiative” for the union. She explained that the hall, once completed, would provide a befitting environment for congresses, training sessions, seminars, professional workshops, and other major union activities, strengthening the professional capacity of journalists in the Federal Capital Territory.

“The completion of this facility is not just about bricks and mortar,” Ms. Ike said. “It represents our commitment to advancing journalism, supporting media professionals, and creating a lasting legacy for the next generation of journalists in Abuja. Bespoke Holdings’ willingness to collaborate demonstrates a shared commitment to nation-building, corporate social responsibility, and the strengthening of democracy.”

The NUJ delegation included Vice Chairman Yahaya Ndambabo, Secretary Comrade Jide Oyekunle, Assistant Secretary Sharon Emephia, Treasurer Sandra Udeike, Auditor Rosemary Ukoko-Tega, Financial Secretary Henry Abimiku, as well as members Juliet Dangiwa and Elder Alfa Jacqdeen.

Responding to the delegation, Managing Director of Bespoke Holdings, Dr. Christian Olatunji, expressed the company’s readiness to support the Congress Hall project, underscoring the vital role of a robust and independent media sector in promoting transparency, accountability, and sustainable national development.

Dr. Olatunji praised journalists for their unwavering courage in speaking truth to power, often at great personal risk, noting that the media remains a crucial watchdog over governance and corruption. He remarked:

“Without journalists, I can only imagine what Nigerian politicians would have become. Even with journalists, challenges persist; imagine if there were no journalists and everything was left solely to social media—accountability would have been impossible. You are doing impressive work, and we are ready to be part of it. Once we visit the site, we will know the best way to contribute to this worthy cause.”

Beyond the Congress Hall project, the visit opened discussions on broader collaborations, including media engagement initiatives, strategic communication programs, and long-term partnerships of mutual benefit to both parties.

The NUJ FCT Ultra-Modern Congress Hall, when completed, is set to become a landmark facility for journalists in Abuja, symbolising unity, professionalism, and progress in Nigeria’s media ecosystem. It is expected to host high-profile congresses, trainings, and professional engagements, reinforcing the importance of strong media institutions in fostering a transparent and accountable society.
