The management of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has stepped up efforts to reposition commercial and passenger service operations at Lagos’ premier aviation hub, holding a strategic meeting with concessionaires and shop owners affected by the planned relocation from Murtala Muhammed International Airport Terminal 1 to a temporary facility at Murtala Muhammed International Airport Terminal 2.
The engagement provided a structured platform for FAAN to formally communicate transition timelines, operational expectations, and the framework for allocating retail and service spaces within the temporary terminal. Airport authorities emphasised that the relocation is part of a broader operational optimisation strategy designed to enhance passenger safety, improve service delivery, and sustain uninterrupted commercial activities during ongoing infrastructure adjustments at Terminal 1.
During the session, concessionaires raised concerns bordering on business continuity, customer traffic flow, logistics coordination, and potential revenue implications arising from the movement to the temporary terminal. In response, FAAN management assured stakeholders that the transition process would be implemented in phases, guided by clear communication, operational support, and fairness in space distribution to minimise disruption to both businesses and travellers.
Officials noted that maintaining seamless passenger experience remains central to the relocation exercise, stressing that commercial services within the airport ecosystem play a vital role in travel convenience, non-aeronautical revenue generation, and investor confidence in Nigeria’s aviation sector.
The authority further reaffirmed its commitment to stakeholder engagement, transparency, and collaborative problem-solving throughout the relocation period. According to FAAN, the temporary shift will ensure sustained airport functionality while necessary improvements and operational enhancements are carried out within Terminal 1.
Aviation industry analysts say the proactive coordination between airport management and concessionaires reflects growing institutional focus on efficiency, safety compliance, and modern service standards across Nigeria’s busiest international gateway.
FAAN outlines timelines, operational guidelines, and stakeholder support measures for relocating concessionaires from MMIA Terminal 1 to a temporary Terminal 2 facility to ensure seamless airport operations.
