The Comptroller of the Tincan Island Port Area Command, Frank Onyeka, has outlined an ambitious 2026 reform agenda aimed at strengthening operational efficiency, improving transparency, and boosting investor confidence within Nigeria’s maritime trade corridor.
Speaking during a media parley held yesterday, the Customs chief emphasized that accurate cargo declaration by importers and licensed agents remains the foundation for seamless clearance, proper duty assessment, and sustainable revenue generation for government. He explained that when traders comply fully with declaration requirements, the computation of duties and taxes becomes straightforward, significantly reducing delays, disputes, and opportunities for revenue leakage.
Onyeka noted that the reform drive aligns with the modernization vision of the Nigeria Customs Service to create a more predictable and business-friendly port environment capable of attracting new investments while facilitating legitimate trade. According to him, transparency in procedures, digital compliance monitoring, and stronger collaboration with stakeholders will form the core pillars of the 2026 operational framework.
He further assured the trading community that Customs under his leadership at Tincan Port would continue to work closely with freight forwarders, terminal operators, and shipping companies along a shared trajectory designed to enhance service delivery, accelerate cargo processing timelines, and strengthen revenue collection without compromising regulatory standards.
The Comptroller also expressed appreciation to members of the media and invited stakeholders for their probing questions and constructive engagement during the revenue briefing session, adding that detailed revenue performance figures would be released at the close of the programme as part of the command’s transparency commitment.
Industry observers say the renewed focus on compliance, accountability, and institutional efficiency signals a broader effort to reposition Nigeria’s port system as a competitive gateway for regional and global trade in 2026 and beyond.
