The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has partnered with MTN Nigeria to introduce complimentary WiFi services at Murtala Muhammed International Airport Terminal 2 in Lagos and Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, in a move aimed at deepening digital connectivity and improving the overall passenger experience within Nigeria’s aviation ecosystem.

The announcement was made by Henry Agbebire, Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at FAAN, who disclosed that the official launch ceremony was held at MMIA Terminal 2, Lagos. Representing FAAN’s Managing Director/Chief Executive, Olubunmi Kuku, at the event was the Director of Airport Operations, Abdullahi Mahmood. Also present was Lynda Saint-Nwafor, Chief Enterprise Business Officer of MTN Nigeria, who represented the company’s Chief Executive Officer, Karl Toriola.

According to FAAN, the WiFi service is completely free for passengers and airport users and will be expanded within the next three months to cover the MMIA temporary terminal and additional international airports nationwide. The phased rollout is expected to strengthen digital access, support seamless passenger communication, and align Nigerian airport services with emerging global standards.

Speaking during the launch, Captain Mahmood described the initiative as a major milestone for FAAN and a benchmark for modern digital infrastructure within the country’s aviation sector. He noted that the collaboration with MTN Nigeria highlights the effectiveness of Public-Private Partnerships in accelerating infrastructure development, improving service delivery, and advancing Nigeria’s position in the global digital economy.

He added that the project aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and complements the aviation sector transformation being driven by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo.

In her remarks, Saint-Nwafor assured users that the connectivity service would remain reliable, secure, and efficient, reflecting MTN Nigeria’s commitment to delivering enterprise-grade digital infrastructure across critical national assets. She also commended FAAN’s leadership for its collaboration and strategic foresight in ensuring the successful delivery of the project.

Industry stakeholders say the introduction of free airport WiFi represents a critical step toward smart-airport development in Nigeria, with the potential to enhance passenger satisfaction, enable real-time digital services, and strengthen the competitiveness of the country’s international gateways within Africa’s rapidly evolving aviation landscape.
