The Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) Temporary Terminal officially commenced operations today, marking a major milestone in the airport’s modernization efforts. The first passenger was successfully processed at 10:27 a.m. and departed with Middle East Airlines, signaling a smooth start for the facility, which now assumes the full operational functions of Terminal 1.
The temporary terminal, strategically designed to handle both domestic and international traffic, also serves flights for Ethiopian Airlines, KLM, and Air France, among other carriers. Airport officials confirmed that the facility is fully equipped with modern check-in counters, security screening areas, and passenger amenities aimed at delivering a streamlined travel experience.
“This temporary terminal is a critical step to ensure seamless airport operations while Terminal 1 undergoes renovations,” said a senior official at MMIA. “We are committed to maintaining efficiency, reducing congestion, and providing comfort for passengers during this transition.”
Travelers arriving at the terminal expressed satisfaction with the smooth check-in process and reduced waiting times. The airport management has assured that operations will continue to improve as airlines and staff adapt to the new layout, emphasizing safety and passenger convenience.
Industry observers note that this move reflects Nigeria’s broader efforts to upgrade aviation infrastructure, enhance passenger experience, and meet international operational standards. As Terminal 1 undergoes modernization, the temporary facility ensures that Lagos remains a leading West African aviation hub without service disruptions.
