Operations at the Temporary Terminal 3 of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport were briefly suspended on Wednesday following an electrical spark that broke out in an operational office, resulting in light smoke emission at about 14:05 hours.
Airport authorities immediately activated emergency response procedures, leading to a precautionary shutdown of the terminal to safeguard passengers, staff, and infrastructure.
The situation was swiftly brought under control by personnel of the Aerodrome Rescue and Firefighting Services (Aerodrome Rescue and Firefighting Services), who promptly contained the incident and ensured there was no escalation or spread beyond the affected area.
As part of emergency operational adjustments, all flights scheduled to operate from Terminal 3 were temporarily diverted to Terminal 2. Passengers were promptly informed and guided by airport and airline officials to ensure smooth continuation of travel activities with minimal disruption.
Authorities confirmed that no injuries were recorded, while technical teams have commenced electrical maintenance and safety inspections to restore full functionality to the affected systems ahead of the terminal’s reopening.
The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria) is overseeing the ongoing assessment and remediation process, reiterating its commitment to passenger safety and operational integrity.
Officials assured that the situation is fully under control, with normal airport operations expected to stabilize once all technical and safety checks are completed.
