The Emir of Kano and former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria Sanusi Lamido Sanusi has attributed the mismanagement of petrol subsidy in the country to improper planning and poor leadership
Sanusi made this statement in a keynote address he gave at an event organised by the Niche Newspaper to mark their fifth anniversary and award.
Speaking at the event, he said he could not juxtapose the removal of subsidy with the uncontrolled borrowing embarked upon by the present government. According to him though the subsidy removal was inevitable but he faulted the timing and procedure of implementation by the government. He reiterated that transparent elections, the rule of law and respect for human rights are the three cardinal obligations of every government.
In his paper presentation, the guest speaker and governor of Abia state Dr Alex Otti who spoke on the topic Governing The Economy-Chioces, Trade Off and National Priority spoke extensively about quality leadership and how it impacts service delivery. He said in his state Abia he was able to achieve so much in his state no thanks to his experiences in the private sector which he brought to bear in governance He urged Nigerians not to be disillusioned but should continue to hold the government accountable.
The lecture drew a large crowd including the Obi of Onitsha who was the Co-chairman of the event. The organiser of the event and publisher of the Niche Ikechukwu Amaechi thanked Governor Otti, Obi of Onitsha and Sanusi Lamido Sanusi for honouring the event.
