The Deputy Governor of the CBN in charge of Corporate Services, Ms Emem Usoro
The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has reaffirmed its commitment to building a resilient and inclusive economy, saying ongoing policy reforms and coordinated fiscal alignment are steadily strengthening macroeconomic stability and improving prospects for sustainable growth across the country.
The Deputy Governor of the CBN in charge of Corporate Services, Ms Emem Usoro, made this known over the weekend in Ikot Akpadem, Mkpat Enin Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, shortly after being conferred with an honorary Doctor of Business Administration (DBA), Honoris Causa, by Akwa Ibom State University.
The conferment formed part of the institution’s combined 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th convocation ceremonies, which also recognised several prominent Nigerians for their contributions to national development.
Reforms Driving Stability and Growth
Speaking at the event, Usoro said the apex bank has intensified efforts to design and implement policies aimed at reinforcing economic resilience, stabilising key macroeconomic indicators, and expanding opportunities for Nigerians across all sectors.
She explained that recent reforms by the CBN, particularly those aligned with fiscal policy measures of the Federal Government, are already yielding positive outcomes in exchange rate stability, inflation management efforts, and overall economic performance.
“At the Central Bank of Nigeria, we are working hard to build a resilient economy that will support your dreams and integrate you into a global economy full of immense opportunities,” she said.
“We have developed systems and implemented policies that have pulled the country back from economic challenges and are positioning the economy to better serve all segments of society.”
Usoro further emphasised that stronger coordination between monetary and fiscal authorities has been central to recent gains in the economy.
“In strong synergy with the Federal Government, we have aligned our monetary policies with fiscal reforms. This has already delivered exchange rate and macroeconomic stability, boosted economic growth, and is fostering an inclusive economy for sustainable development,” she added.
Support for Education and Research
The Deputy Governor also used the occasion to announce that the CBN would extend support to Akwa Ibom State University to strengthen its academic and research capabilities, noting that investment in education remains critical to long-term national development.
“As an institution, we will support the university with a token for its academic and research work to enhance its impact in Nigeria,” she said.
She further encouraged graduating students to embrace continuous learning and adaptability in a rapidly changing global economy, stressing that excellence is built on discipline, sacrifice, and perseverance.
Usoro also delivered a strong message to female graduates, urging them not to be limited by cultural or societal barriers, but to remain focused on their ambitions and long-term goals.
Recognition of Distinguished Nigerians
The convocation ceremony also featured the conferment of honorary doctorate degrees on several eminent Nigerians in recognition of their achievements across different sectors.
Among the honourees were the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero (Doctor of Arts); prominent businessman, Alhaji Dr Muhammadu Indimi (Doctor of Business Administration); and Mr Uwem Stephen Okoko (Doctor of Engineering).
Others included Mrs Mina Tamuno Williams-Agbons (Doctor of Law); Mr Oliver Ebong (Doctor of Engineering); Mr Inyang Udo Tobby (Doctor of Humane Letters); and Mr Elvis Effiong Osung (Doctor of Engineering), among others.
The university said the awards were conferred in recognition of the recipients’ outstanding contributions to nation-building, industry development, leadership, and humanitarian service.
