Officers and Men of the Nigerian Custom service has intercepted a N19B worth of Cannabis hidden in a Toyota Camry Car said to have been imported from Canada. Also impounded are Colorado concealed in a Chevrolet Car also imported from Canada. NCS informed that the eagle eyed officers was able to detect the container loaded with contraband that was falsely declared as to contained used vehicles. The content includes 4.729 kilograms of illicit substance concealed in two used vehicles imported from Toronto Canada which also includes packages of Cannabis Indica with an estimated street value of N18.916 000.000 (18 billion).
The Custom Controller, Tin Can Island Command Frank Frank onyeka disclosed this on Thursday during a press conference at the Tin Can Custom Command Apapa. He attributed the success to a credible intelligence and strengthened collaboration between the Nigerian Drug Law Enforcement Agency NDLEA and the Nigerian Custom Service. The container which originated from Canada was initially declared to contain only used vehicles, however upon examination, it was discovered to contain 185 bags of cannabis concealed in a used Toyota 2010 car and Chevrolet car, all from Canada.
According to him, the operation was in line with an agreement signed in 27th of April 2026 between the Controller General of Customs Wale Adeniyi and NDLEA Chairman Brig General Buba Marwa rtd to strengthen synergy against drug trafficking. He commended the NDLEA for providing the intelligence that led to the the breakthrough noting the level of concealment used by the smugglers.
