SportyTV today announced a three-year agreement to broadcast games from the National Basketball Association (NBA) free of charge across Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, and South Africa, available on television, its OTT platform, and mobile app.
Coverage begins this Thursday with Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals between the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Detroit Pistons. For the remainder of the current season, SportyTV will broadcast eight playoff games, including up to three NBA Finals matchups.
From next season through September 2028, the partnership will deliver a comprehensive NBA broadcast package across all four markets, giving fans consistent free-to-air access to the league’s biggest games and marquee events. The offering includes weekly NBA Saturday games, NBA Christmas Day matchups, the NBA All-Star Game, selected Play-In Tournament games, and extensive NBA Playoffs coverage through the Finals.
“There’s a difference between content being available and it being accessible. This deal closes that gap, with free NBA games across mobile, smart TVs, and digital platforms, built around how people actually watch today,” said Elias Gallego, Vice President of Media, Marketing, and Business Development at Sporty Group.
Fans will be able to follow many of the league’s biggest stars, including LeBron James, Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, Luka Dončić, Nikola Jokić, Victor Wembanyama, and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, as well as players with strong ties to the continent, among them Giannis Antetokounmpo and Joel Embiid.
Beyond live games, SportyTV will air daily highlights programming and classic NBA content featuring iconic figures, including Michael Jordan, Hakeem Olajuwon, and Dikembe Mutombo. The NBA partnership builds on SportyTV’s existing EuroLeague offering, further establishing it as a destination for top-tier basketball across Africa.
