Ibom Air has recorded a major milestone in its expansion strategy by successfully operating its first scheduled international flight between Uyo and Accra, officially establishing the Victor Attah International Airport as a functional international gateway for Nigeria.
The landmark service, which took place on Sunday, June 28, 2026, marked the airline’s entry into scheduled international operations from its Uyo hub. The flight also showcased the airport’s growing role as a regional transit centre, with passengers travelling seamlessly between Abuja and Accra via Uyo in both directions.
The development is expected to strengthen regional air connectivity, improve travel convenience for passengers, and support economic and commercial ties between Nigeria and Ghana.
Speaking on the achievement, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Ibom Air, Mr. George Uriesi, described the inaugural international operation as a defining moment for both the airline and Akwa Ibom State.
“We are delighted to have commenced international operations out of Uyo. More importantly, we successfully facilitated seamless transit for passengers between Abuja and Accra through Uyo. This is exactly what the new terminal represents—a world-class airport experience in a modern facility designed to connect people and create opportunities,” he said.
Uriesi noted that the successful operation reflects Ibom Air’s commitment to delivering reliable, safe, and efficient air transport services while expanding its network beyond Nigeria’s borders.
He added that the achievement validates the significant investments made by the Akwa Ibom State Government in the Victor Attah International Airport, positioning the facility to compete with other major aviation hubs in West Africa.
Industry observers say the launch of the Uyo–Accra route could boost tourism, trade, investment, and business travel between the two countries while offering passengers additional travel options through Ibom Air’s domestic network.
The airline’s ability to provide smooth domestic-to-international connections through Uyo is also expected to reduce congestion at some of Nigeria’s busier international airports and enhance the overall passenger travel experience.
The commencement of international flights represents another significant chapter in Ibom Air’s growth journey since its launch, reinforcing its ambition to become one of West Africa’s leading regional carriers.
