Sovereign Trust Insurance Plc has successfully met the new recapitalisation requirement for non-life insurance companies prescribed by the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM) under the Nigeria Insurance Industry Reform Act (NIIRA) 2025.
The achievement marks a significant milestone for the company, reinforcing its financial strength, underwriting capacity and readiness to pursue long-term growth in Nigeria’s evolving insurance market.
The successful recapitalisation also positions Sovereign Trust Insurance to take advantage of emerging opportunities across key sectors of the economy while strengthening its capacity to provide sustainable protection and insurance solutions to individuals, businesses and institutions.
Commenting on the development, the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Sovereign Trust Insurance Plc, Dr. Lucas Durojaiye, said the achievement reflected the confidence of the company’s shareholders and stakeholders in its strategic direction and growth prospects.
“Meeting the new recapitalisation requirement is a significant milestone for Sovereign Trust Insurance Plc. It demonstrates the strength of our business, the confidence of our shareholders and our commitment to maintaining the highest standards of financial capacity and corporate governance,” Durojaiye said.
He added that the company would remain focused on delivering sustainable value to policyholders, shareholders, brokers, agents and other stakeholders.
According to him, Sovereign Trust Insurance would continue to leverage technology, innovation and customer-focused solutions to deepen insurance penetration and improve access to insurance services across Nigeria.
The company said the recapitalisation provides a stronger foundation for enhancing its underwriting capacity and pursuing strategic opportunities in various segments of the Nigerian economy.
Durojaiye said the company’s priorities would include sustainable growth, prudent risk management, operational efficiency, digital transformation and improved customer experience, alongside strict adherence to regulatory requirements.
The successful completion of the recapitalisation requirement also underscores Sovereign Trust Insurance’s confidence in the future of Nigeria’s insurance industry and its determination to contribute to the emergence of a stronger, more inclusive and resilient sector.
Over the years, Sovereign Trust Insurance Plc has maintained a strong focus on professionalism and the delivery of general insurance solutions to individuals, businesses and institutions.
With its strengthened capital position, the company is expected to build further on its commitment to innovative, reliable and customer-focused insurance services while creating sustainable value for stakeholders.
The development comes as Nigeria’s insurance industry undergoes a major regulatory and capital transformation under NIIRA 2025, with NAICOM seeking to strengthen the financial capacity, resilience and competitiveness of insurance operators.
