Leadership meeting at Ports Authority Police Headquarters signals renewed commitment to inter-agency coordination, intelligence sharing, and efficient port operations
The newly appointed Controller of Customs, Tincan Island Port Area Command, Comptroller J.A. Anani, has reaffirmed the importance of inter-agency collaboration in safeguarding Nigeria’s maritime environment during a courtesy visit to the Commissioner of Police, Ports Authority Police Command (Western), CP Oluwatoyin Iyabode Agbaminoja, at the Command Headquarters in Apapa, Lagos.
The visit highlighted ongoing efforts to deepen operational synergy between the Nigeria Customs Service and the Nigeria Police Force, particularly within Nigeria’s busiest maritime corridor.
Strengthening Port Security Architecture
During the engagement, Comptroller Anani commended the Ports Authority Police (Western Command) for its consistent role in maintaining law and order within the port environment. He noted that the complexity of modern maritime operations requires sustained collaboration among all security and regulatory agencies to ensure seamless cargo movement, prevent criminal infiltration, and support national revenue generation.
He emphasized that intelligence sharing, coordinated surveillance, and joint enforcement actions remain critical pillars in addressing emerging threats within the port ecosystem. According to him, no single agency can effectively manage the evolving security challenges of the maritime sector without strategic partnership.
Police Reaffirms Commitment to Collaboration
In her response, CP Agbaminoja welcomed the Customs Controller and congratulated him on his new appointment, describing the visit as both timely and significant for the continued stability of the port environment.
She reaffirmed the commitment of the Ports Authority Police Command to maintaining strong working relationships with the Nigeria Customs Service and other critical stakeholders in the maritime sector.
The Police Commissioner stressed that effective collaboration, real-time intelligence exchange, and joint operational drills are essential tools in combating smuggling, fraud, and other criminal activities within Nigeria’s seaports. She added that a unified security approach is key to protecting critical national assets and ensuring smooth port operations.

According to ASP Isaac Hundeyin, anipr, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Ports Authority Police (Western) Command, both agencies reiterated their shared commitment to deepening institutional cooperation.
He noted that the meeting reflects a broader national security objective aimed at building a more secure, efficient, and globally competitive maritime sector capable of supporting economic growth and investor confidence.
Both leaders pledged to sustain ongoing collaboration through enhanced communication channels, joint security strategies, and continuous engagement aimed at improving port efficiency and safety.
The visit concluded with a mutual agreement to further strengthen operational partnerships in pursuit of a safer and more productive maritime domain.
