Nigeria’s creative and manufacturing ecosystem received a fresh boost as Leadway Group renewed its commitment to enterprise development through continued sponsorship of the Lagos leather industry’s premier showcase, the Lagos Leather Fair.
The latest partnership marks the fourth consecutive year of Leadway’s support for the fair, underscoring the group’s long-term strategy of strengthening small and medium-scale enterprises (SMEs) and expanding opportunities within Nigeria’s fast-growing creative economy.
Now preparing for its ninth edition, the Lagos Leather Fair is scheduled to hold on June 27 and 28, 2026, at the EPAC Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos. This year’s event will run under the theme “Beyond the Hide: Scaling Value, Building Industry, Driving Growth,” with a strong focus on industrial transformation, value addition, and sustainable ecosystem development across Africa’s leather sector.
Driving Value Across the Leather Chain
The fair has, over the years, evolved into a central platform for collaboration between designers, manufacturers, suppliers, investors, and policymakers. It continues to highlight Nigeria’s potential to shift from raw material exports to a more structured, value-added leather manufacturing industry capable of competing globally.
Leadway’s sustained participation reflects a broader corporate strategy anchored on supporting sectors with high growth potential and strong multiplier effects on employment, innovation, and export earnings.
Speaking on the sponsorship, MD/CEO of Leadway Pensure, Olusakin Labeodan, reaffirmed the importance of SMEs in shaping Nigeria’s economic future:
“SMEs are the critical drivers of Nigeria’s economic growth, innovation, and generational wealth creation. The leather industry provides huge opportunities for young entrepreneurs and creative minds to participate in a vibrant and resilient value-retention economy.”
He added that Leadway’s involvement aligns with its commitment to enabling sustainable enterprise growth across Africa’s emerging industries.
Untapped Industrial Opportunity
Industry data referenced from a 2025 report by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization indicates that Nigeria processes more than 750,000 metric tonnes of raw hides and skins annually, much of which is still exported in unprocessed or semi-processed form.
Analysts say this structural imbalance presents a significant opportunity for industrial expansion, job creation, and foreign exchange growth if properly harnessed through local manufacturing and improved value chain integration.
The Lagos Leather Fair has increasingly positioned itself as a catalyst for addressing this gap by encouraging innovation, skills development, and investment into local production capacity.
Beyond Sponsorship: Enabling SMEs and Innovation
As part of its continued engagement, Leadway is expected to participate actively in this year’s fair through stakeholder sessions and financial empowerment initiatives targeted at SMEs and creative entrepreneurs.
These interventions will focus on providing access to tailored financial solutions, business resilience tools, and advisory support aimed at helping small businesses scale sustainably in a competitive market environment.
The initiative reinforces Leadway’s broader vision of supporting enterprise ecosystems rather than isolated business activity—an approach increasingly viewed as critical to unlocking Nigeria’s creative economy potential.
Lagos Leather Fair as a Growing Industry Hub
Since its inception in 2017, the Lagos Leather Fair has grown into one of Africa’s most influential industry platforms for leather goods and craftsmanship. It has helped bridge gaps between artisans, manufacturers, and markets while promoting collaboration across the value chain.
With continued support from key private sector players like Leadway, the fair is increasingly seen as a strategic driver of Nigeria’s ambition to reposition its leather industry from raw material dependence to global value chain participation.
Leadway Group has renewed its commitment to Nigeria’s creative economy by sponsoring the Lagos Leather Fair for the fourth consecutive year, reinforcing support for SMEs and value chain development in the leather industry ahead of the 2026 edition themed “Beyond the Hide.”
