The countdown has begun for the highly anticipated SUPERNEWS Nigeria Annual Conference and 10th Anniversary Celebration, with leading figures from Nigeria’s oil and gas, insurance, regulatory, and financial sectors set to converge for a high-level dialogue on advancing local content, digital transformation and inclusive economic growth.
The fourth edition of the annual conference, scheduled for Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at the Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos, will be held under the theme: “Local Content & Digitisation: Building Synergy Between Oil & Gas and Insurance Sectors for Inclusive Growth.”
In a major announcement ahead of the event, Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Universal Insurance Plc, Dr. Jeff Duru, has been named Chairman of the Conference, while the Group Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Royal Exchange Plc, Mrs. Idu Okeahialam, will deliver the keynote address.
The conference is expected to attract an impressive gathering of regulators, chief executives, policymakers, oil and gas operators, insurance professionals, academics, civil society organisations, media practitioners, students and other stakeholders committed to strengthening Nigeria’s economic development.
Adding prestige to the event, the Commissioner for Insurance and Chief Executive Officer of the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM), Mr. Olusegun Ayo Omosehin, has confirmed his participation as the Special Guest of Honour. Also expected is the President of the Nigerian Council of Registered Insurance Brokers (NCRIB), Mrs. Ekeoma Ezeibe, alongside other distinguished industry leaders.
The conference will feature an array of accomplished speakers, including the Managing Director/CEO of Stanbic IBTC Insurance, Mr. Akinjide Orimolade; Managing Director/CEO of Guinea Insurance Plc, Mr. Ademola Abidogun; Managing Director/CEO of Deepshores Energy Limited, Mrs. Nneka Obi; and Professor Olajide Fadun of the Department of Insurance and Actuarial Science, University of Lagos.
Speaking on the significance of this year’s theme, Publisher of SUPERNEWS Nigeria and Convener of the Conference, Ngozi Onyeakusi, said the forum is designed to stimulate practical discussions on how technology and digital innovation can deepen collaboration between the oil and gas and insurance industries while strengthening local capacity.
According to her, the conference seeks to provide actionable solutions to the implementation challenges surrounding Sections 49 and 50 of the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry Content Development (NOGICD) Act, which require operators in the oil and gas sector to insure all risks associated with their operations through insurance companies and brokers registered in Nigeria.
She explained that the Act also provides that operators wishing to place insurance risks offshore must first obtain written approval from the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM), which can only be granted after confirming that local underwriting capacity has been fully exhausted.
To enhance compliance with the legislation, the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) and NAICOM jointly introduced implementation guidelines in 2022 to address identified gaps in the enforcement of the Act.
Despite these reforms, industry experts note that insurance companies have continued to grapple with challenges, including inadequate capital, limited underwriting capacity and operational constraints.
However, stakeholders believe the enactment of the Nigeria Insurance Industry Reform Act (NIIRA) 2025, together with the ongoing recapitalisation exercise, has positioned the Nigerian insurance industry for stronger global competitiveness, enhanced financial capacity and increased ability to underwrite major oil and gas risks locally.
Against this backdrop, SUPERNEWS Confab 2026 is expected to provide a strategic platform for robust policy conversations on how digitisation, regulatory reforms and effective implementation of local content policies can unlock new opportunities, strengthen indigenous participation, boost investor confidence and drive sustainable, inclusive growth across Nigeria’s oil and gas and insurance sectors.
As SUPERNEWS Nigeria marks a decade of impactful financial and business journalism, this year’s conference is expected to produce valuable policy recommendations capable of shaping the future of two of Nigeria’s most strategic industries while reinforcing collaboration among regulators, operators and investors.
SUPERNEWS Nigeria will host its 2026 Conference and 10th Anniversary on July 7 in Lagos, bringing together NAICOM, NCDMB, insurance CEOs and oil industry leaders to discuss local content, digitisation and inclusive growth.
