Nigeria’s quest to deepen indigenous participation in Africa’s energy industry received a major boost on the opening day of NOG Energy Week 2026, as the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) championed stronger regional collaboration to accelerate local content development across the continent.

The strategic conversation took centre stage during the Nigerian Content Strategic Panel Session, themed “Building Africa’s Local Content Alliances: Progress, Gaps and Opportunities,” where stakeholders examined practical ways African countries can work together to unlock greater value from their natural resources.

The session was moderated by Hadassah Hussaini, Diplomatic Relations Advisor at NNPC Limited, who steered high-level discussions on creating a unified approach to local content policies capable of driving industrialisation, strengthening indigenous companies and improving Africa’s competitiveness in the global energy market.

The panel featured senior representatives from the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), the Petroleum Technology Association of Nigeria (PETAN), the African Local Content Association, and Namibia’s Ministry of Industries, Mines and Energy.

Participants agreed that while several African countries have made remarkable progress in implementing local content policies, greater regional collaboration remains essential to maximise economic benefits from the continent’s vast oil, gas and renewable energy resources.

Discussions focused on harmonising local content frameworks, promoting cross-border investments, facilitating technology transfer, building skilled manpower and expanding opportunities for indigenous African businesses throughout the energy value chain.

Hussaini emphasised the importance of collective action among African nations, noting that stronger partnerships would enable local enterprises to compete more effectively while ensuring greater value retention within the continent.

Industry leaders also stressed the need for governments, regulators and private sector players to collaborate more closely in addressing existing policy gaps that limit the growth of indigenous energy companies.

The panel further explored opportunities for African countries to leverage shared expertise, encourage innovation and develop regional supply chains capable of supporting large-scale energy projects.

NNPC Limited’s leadership of the strategic session reflects the company’s growing commitment to fostering regional partnerships that promote sustainable economic development, strengthen energy security and position Africa as a globally competitive energy investment destination.

The discussions formed part of the broader agenda at NOG Energy Week 2026, one of Africa’s foremost energy conferences, where policymakers, investors, operators and industry experts are meeting to shape the future of the continent’s evolving energy landscape.

NNPC Limited spearheaded discussions on strengthening Africa’s local content partnerships at NOG Energy Week 2026, with experts outlining strategies to boost indigenous companies, technology transfer, and regional energy competitiveness.
