Igbinedion University, Okada, has entered into a strategic partnership with EduTech Global to strengthen its digital learning infrastructure, expand access to university education and transform the operations of its Distance Learning Centre (DLC).

The partnership is designed to enable students across Nigeria to access quality university education beyond the conventional campus environment, while positioning the institution for greater competitiveness in an increasingly technology-driven higher education sector.

Under the agreement, EduTech Global will provide digital learning infrastructure and technology support to Igbinedion University’s Distance Learning Centre, creating a more connected and scalable platform for academic delivery, administration and student engagement.

The initiative reflects the university’s broader ambition to combine its academic heritage with technology and innovative learning models capable of supporting national workforce development.

Digital Transformation at the Core

Speaking on the partnership, Vice-Chancellor of Igbinedion University, Prof. Lawrence Ezemonye, described the collaboration as a major step towards the institution’s future in higher education.

According to him, expanding the university’s digital learning infrastructure would help remove geographical barriers while making quality and industry-aligned education accessible to learners regardless of their location.

He said the university’s objective was not only to produce graduates capable of making an impact nationally and globally, but also to leverage technology to contribute meaningfully to workforce development.

Distance Learning Centre Targets Greater Efficiency

Director of the Igbinedion University Distance Learning Centre, Prof. Gideon Bawa, said the partnership was driven by the need to transform processes at the centre that had previously been largely manual.

He explained that EduTech Global’s experience in helping other institutions leverage technology was an important factor in the university’s decision to enter the partnership.

Bawa expressed confidence that the collaboration would significantly increase enrolment while improving the quality, efficiency and scalability of the Distance Learning Centre.

He disclosed that the university plans to move most of its administrative and academic activities online through EduTech Global.

The move, he said, is expected to improve operational efficiency, enhance students’ learning experience and create a more effective digital environment for interaction between learners and facilitators.

EduTech: Partnership Goes Beyond Putting Courses Online

Co-founder and Chief Technology Officer of EduTech Global, Femi Shonubi, said technology was redefining what universities could offer in terms of access, learning and socio-economic impact.

Shonubi stressed that EduTech’s role extends beyond simply transferring courses to an online platform.

He said the company was focused on helping institutions develop connected learning ecosystems covering the entire student journey—from application and enrolment through learning, assessment and graduation.

According to him, removing physical barriers to education would enable institutions such as Igbinedion University to democratise access to quality learning while helping develop a resilient and highly skilled workforce capable of meeting the demands of the modern economy.

He added that Igbinedion University’s ambition to lead in innovative education aligns strongly with EduTech Global’s vision.

Partnership Responds to Growing Demand for Flexible Education

General Manager of EduTech Global, Moyosore Asubiojo, said the partnership comes at a time when demand is increasing for flexible higher education among working professionals, entrepreneurs and other learners seeking alternatives to traditional full-time campus education.

She said combining Igbinedion University’s academic capabilities with EduTech Global’s technology expertise would create additional pathways to quality education and workforce development.

The partnership will also enable the university to extend its reach beyond its traditional geographical footprint.

Positioning Igbinedion for the Future of Higher Education

The collaboration marks a significant digital transformation opportunity for Igbinedion University, particularly as institutions increasingly adopt technology-enabled models to widen access, improve operational efficiency and respond to changing learner expectations.

The partnership is expected to make education more accessible, flexible and scalable, while strengthening the university’s capacity to compete in the next generation of technology-enabled higher education in Nigeria and beyond.

For Igbinedion University, the initiative represents more than an expansion of its Distance Learning Centre. It signals a strategic shift towards a connected digital education ecosystem in which technology supports the learner from admission to graduation.

Analysts cited in the statement described the partnership as a shared commitment by both organisations to expand access to higher education, strengthen workforce development and position Igbinedion University for greater leadership in technology-enabled education in Nigeria and globally.
