The Central Securities Clearing System Plc (CSCS), Nigeria’s central depository and capital market infrastructure provider, is intensifying efforts to ensure a seamless transition to the T+2 settlement cycle with the hosting of its second stakeholder webinar, scheduled for Tuesday, 15 October 2025, at 10:00 AM via Zoom.
Themed “Trade Associations Roundtable: Ensuring Stakeholder Readiness for T+2 Settlement,” the virtual event seeks to deepen industry understanding, enhance preparedness across the value chain, and reinforce collaboration among trade associations and regulators as Nigeria aligns its securities settlement timeline with global standards.
The move from a T+3 to a T+2 settlement cycle—meaning transactions will now settle two business days after the trade date instead of three—marks a crucial step toward achieving greater market efficiency, liquidity, and investor confidence.
CSCS Leads Market Readiness Conversations
Speaking ahead of the event, Mr. Haruna Jalo-Waziri, Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of CSCS Plc, said the transition represents not only a regulatory advancement but a collective milestone for Nigeria’s financial markets.
“The shift to T+2 settlement is more than a compliance requirement—it’s a shared success story for our market. At CSCS, we believe that successful implementation rests on collective understanding and readiness across all stakeholder groups. This second webinar underscores our commitment to sustained engagement and transparent communication with our partners as we work together to strengthen Nigeria’s market infrastructure,” Jalo-Waziri stated.
According to him, the initiative is part of CSCS’s broader effort to enhance operational resilience, reduce settlement risks, and support the long-term growth of the Nigerian capital market.
Industry Regulators and Associations to Lead Discussions
The event will feature remarks from Dr. Emomotimi Agama, Director General of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC); Mr. Temi Popoola, Chairman, CSCS Plc; and Mr. Haruna Jalo-Waziri, MD/CEO, CSCS Plc.
Also expected are industry thought leaders, including Mr. Samuel Onukwue, Chairman, Association of Securities Dealing Houses of Nigeria (ASHON); Mr. Babatunde Majiyagbe, President, Association of Asset Custodians of Nigeria (AACN); and Mr. Seyi Owoturo, President/Chairman of Council, Institute of Capital Market Registrars (ICMR).
These experts will share insights on operational readiness, regulatory compliance, and infrastructure coordination as Nigeria prepares for the full migration to the T+2 settlement regime.
The session will feature an interactive Q&A segment, giving participants the opportunity to engage directly with market leaders, seek clarification on operational changes, and exchange ideas on best practices for the transition.
Driving Market Efficiency Through Collaboration
CSCS has consistently championed innovation and collaboration within the Nigerian capital market. Through initiatives like the T+2 stakeholder webinars, the organization continues to build a stronger ecosystem anchored on transparency, technology, and international alignment.
The T+2 transition, which has already been adopted by major global markets, is expected to reduce settlement risk exposure, enhance liquidity, and position Nigeria as a competitive emerging market destination for both local and foreign investors.
With more than two decades of leadership in market modernization, CSCS remains at the forefront of implementing digital-driven solutions that enhance trade settlement efficiency and ensure the Nigerian capital market keeps pace with international best practice.
