The countdown has begun for the 2026 edition of the SUPERNEWS Nigeria Annual Conference and 10th Anniversary Celebration, with leading figures from Nigeria’s insurance, oil and gas, regulatory and financial sectors set to converge to chart a new course for deeper collaboration, digital transformation and local content development.
The organisers have announced the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Universal Insurance Plc, Dr. Jeff Duru, as Chairman of the landmark conference, while the Group Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Royal Exchange Plc, Mrs. Idu Okeahialam, will deliver the keynote address at the event scheduled for Tuesday, July 7, 2026.
Now in its fourth edition, the annual conference will hold at the Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos, beginning at 10:00 a.m., under the theme: “Local Content & Digitisation: Building Synergy Between Oil & Gas and Insurance Sectors for Inclusive Growth.”
The event, which also marks SUPERNEWS Nigeria’s 10th anniversary, is expected to attract a broad spectrum of stakeholders, including insurance executives, oil and gas operators, regulators, policymakers, financial experts, academics, civil society organisations, media professionals, students and other industry participants.
Adding further prestige to the conference, the Commissioner for Insurance and Chief Executive Officer of the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM), Olusegun Ayo Omosehin, has confirmed his participation as the Special Guest of Honour.
Also expected at the event is the President of the Nigerian Council of Registered Insurance Brokers, Ekeoma Ezeibe, alongside several distinguished industry leaders.
The conference will feature an impressive panel of speakers, including Akinjide Orimolade, Managing Director/CEO of Stanbic IBTC Insurance; Ademola Abidogun, Managing Director/CEO of Guinea Insurance Plc; Nneka Obi, Managing Director/CEO of Deepshores Energy Limited; and Olajide Fadun, Professor of Insurance and Actuarial Science at the University of Lagos.
Speaking on the significance of this year’s theme, the Publisher of SUPERNEWS Nigeria and Convener of the conference, Ngozi Onyeakusi, said the forum was designed to provide practical solutions that would strengthen collaboration between Nigeria’s insurance and oil and gas industries through technology, innovation and effective policy implementation.
According to her, the conference seeks to deepen conversations around the implementation of Sections 49 and 50 of the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry Content Development (NOGICD) Act, which require operators in the oil and gas sector to insure all operational risks through insurance companies and brokers registered in Nigeria.
She explained that the legislation further provides that any operator intending to place insurance offshore must first obtain written approval from NAICOM after the Commission has established that the required underwriting capacity is unavailable within Nigeria.
Onyeakusi noted that although the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board and NAICOM jointly introduced implementation guidelines in 2022 to improve compliance with the Act, several challenges—including inadequate capital base, limited underwriting capacity and operational constraints—continued to hinder full implementation.
She, however, expressed optimism that the enactment of the Nigeria Insurance Industry Reform Act (NIIRA) 2025 and the ongoing recapitalisation exercise across the insurance industry have positioned Nigerian insurers to compete globally by creating stronger, better-capitalised and more resilient underwriting institutions.
According to the organisers, the conference will provide a strategic platform for industry leaders to examine how digital transformation, regulatory reforms and effective implementation of local content policies can unlock new investment opportunities, improve risk retention within Nigeria, strengthen indigenous capacity and foster sustainable partnerships between the insurance and oil and gas sectors.
As Nigeria intensifies efforts to deepen local participation in its strategic industries, SUPERNEWS Confab 2026 is expected to generate actionable recommendations capable of shaping policy, accelerating digital innovation and advancing inclusive economic growth across both sectors.
