The Federal Government has intensified its oversight of the Nigeria LNG Limited (NLNG) Train 7 Project as Mrs. Patience Oyekunle, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum Resources and Chairperson of the NLNG Board Local Content Committee (LCC), undertook an inspection visit to the Train 7 Project site at the NLNG Bonny Plant.
The visit provided an opportunity for the Ministry of Petroleum Resources and the NLNG Board Local Content Committee to obtain firsthand insight into the progress of the landmark gas expansion project, assess its level of readiness and examine the extent to which local content objectives are being integrated into its execution.
Mrs. Oyekunle’s inspection underscores the Federal Government’s continued interest in ensuring that major investments in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector translate into sustainable economic value, enhanced domestic capacity and greater participation by Nigerian companies and professionals.
During the visit, the Permanent Secretary was briefed on the project’s development status, with particular attention to project execution, contracts, procurement, materials management, Nigerian content development and other critical components required to deliver the facility successfully.
The inspection also highlights the strategic importance of Train 7 to Nigeria’s ambition to expand gas utilisation, strengthen its position in the global liquefied natural gas market and deepen the economic benefits derived from the country’s abundant natural gas resources.
As Chairperson of the NLNG Board Local Content Committee, Mrs. Oyekunle’s engagement further reflects the importance attached to ensuring that the execution of major petroleum projects creates opportunities for Nigerian contractors, manufacturers, service providers, engineers and other professionals.
The committee’s local-content oversight is particularly significant given the scale and complexity of the Train 7 project, which requires extensive procurement, engineering, construction, logistics and technical services.

The visit therefore represents more than a routine inspection. It provides a platform for stakeholders to evaluate project delivery against expectations while reinforcing the need for effective coordination, quality execution, safety, timely completion and maximum local economic impact.
The delegation included Dagogo Buowari, Manager, Nigerian Content Development; Ali Uwais, Project Director, Train 7 Project; and Tolulope Longe, Manager, Contracts, Procurement & Materials, who joined Mrs. Oyekunle during the site engagement.
Train 7 and Nigeria’s Gas Ambition
The Train 7 Project remains strategically important to Nigeria’s broader gas development agenda. Its successful delivery is expected to strengthen NLNG’s production capacity while creating additional opportunities across the country’s gas value chain.
Beyond increased LNG production, projects of this magnitude have the potential to stimulate investment in supporting industries, expand technical expertise, develop indigenous suppliers and contractors, and generate employment throughout the project lifecycle.
For the Federal Government, the effectiveness of such investments will ultimately be measured not only by physical project completion but also by the extent to which they contribute to Nigeria’s industrialisation, energy security, export earnings and domestic economic development.
Local Content as a Strategic Imperative
The involvement of the NLNG Board Local Content Committee places particular emphasis on the Nigerian-content dimension of the project.
The committee’s oversight is expected to reinforce the drive for greater utilisation of Nigerian expertise, materials, services and businesses wherever they can competitively meet project requirements.
This approach is consistent with the broader objective of transforming Nigeria’s oil and gas industry from an enclave dominated by imported expertise and materials into a more integrated industrial ecosystem capable of supporting domestic businesses and retaining greater value within the Nigerian economy.
A Project Under Strategic Watch
Mrs. Oyekunle’s visit consequently places Train 7 firmly within the Federal Government’s strategic watchlist of projects capable of reshaping Nigeria’s gas economy.
The firsthand assessment of the project site is expected to provide the Ministry and the NLNG Board Local Content Committee with a clearer understanding of progress, outstanding requirements and areas requiring sustained attention as the project advances.
The inspection also sends a strong message that the Federal Government remains focused on ensuring that strategic investments in the petroleum sector are delivered efficiently and that Nigerians derive meaningful economic benefits from them.
The Ameh News Analysis: The Train 7 Project is not merely an expansion of LNG capacity; it is a test of Nigeria’s ability to convert its gas resources into industrial capacity, export strength and local economic value. The continued high-level oversight of the project—and particularly its local-content dimension—is therefore a strategic development worth watching.
