……Bank Partners Presidency Office, SAO Foundation to Advance Zero Hunger Campaign in Lagos
In a renewed demonstration of corporate social responsibility and commitment to community welfare, it has distributed food packs to more than 1,000 families in Surulere Local Government Area of Lagos State through its flagship Fidelity Food Bank initiative.
The outreach programme, which brought relief to hundreds of vulnerable households, underscored the bank’s growing role in addressing food insecurity and supporting underserved communities amid Nigeria’s current economic realities.
Held in partnership with the Office of the Personal Assistant to the President on Constituency Affairs and the SAO Foundation, the initiative aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 2, which seeks to eliminate hunger and improve food security globally.
Representatives of the bank, community leaders, beneficiaries, and partners gathered during the outreach, where essential food items were distributed to residents across Surulere Constituency 1.
Speaking at the event, Nnamdi Edekobi, Regional Bank Head for Victoria Island and Lekki, said the initiative reflects Fidelity Bank’s people-focused approach to corporate responsibility and sustainable community impact.
According to him, the intervention goes beyond the donation of food supplies and represents a broader commitment to restoring hope and dignity to struggling families.
“Today goes beyond the distribution of food; it is about uplifting lives, creating opportunities, and strengthening our commitment to the well-being of families in this community,” Edekobi stated.
He added that Fidelity Bank remains dedicated to initiatives that create measurable social impact while supporting communities facing economic hardship.
The bank noted that the Fidelity Food Bank initiative has become one of its major humanitarian platforms designed to cushion the effects of rising living costs on low-income households across Nigeria.
In recent years, food inflation and broader economic pressures have continued to affect millions of Nigerians, increasing the need for public-private collaborations aimed at providing social support and relief interventions.
Also speaking during the outreach, Hon. Khadijat Kareem Omotayo commended the collaboration and praised Fidelity Bank for extending the programme to Surulere residents.
“I am very happy that the foundation is growing. Fidelity Bank are our people, and I appreciate this collaboration that has brought this massive opportunity to Surulere Constituency 1,” she said.
Community members and beneficiaries expressed appreciation for the initiative, describing the support as timely and impactful at a period when many households are grappling with rising food prices and economic uncertainty.
The bank further reaffirmed its commitment to expanding the reach of the Fidelity Food Bank initiative to additional communities nationwide through strategic partnerships and sustained social investment programmes.
Industry observers say initiatives such as the Fidelity Food Bank are increasingly becoming important components of private sector participation in social development, particularly in addressing hunger, poverty, and community resilience.
Fidelity Bank expressed gratitude to its partners, volunteers, and host communities for supporting the initiative and reiterated its resolve to continue investing in programmes that positively impact lives across the country.
The lender emphasised that collective action remains critical to achieving sustainable development goals and ensuring that vulnerable Nigerians are not left behind.
